Atmospheric corrosion—serier All-round corrosion (1)

In the atmosphere, Ni68Cu28Fe (Monel 400) alloy has extremely high corrosion resistance and is an extremely corrosion resistant alloy. Figure 5-17 shows the results of a 20-year test conducted under atmospheric conditions in different parts of the United States. The 20-year test results in the marine atmosphere indicate that Ni68Cu28Fe (Monel 400) also exhibits excellent corrosion resistance. At Kure Beach, North Carolina, USA, 24.4m from the ocean, the average corrosion rate was less than 0.00025mm/a for a 20-year exposure test. See Table 5-17 for comparison with other alloys.
